Agathe Toman is a French multidisciplinary artist—painter, illustrator, photographer and contemporary poet—with Austrian heritage. Black is the very essence of her creative work. From deep pigmented acrylic paintings to hypnotic ballpoint pen drawings, her visual language is raw, powerful, and now enriched by her poetic writing.

Valley Eyewear is an Australian eyewear brand founded by Michael Crawley. Known for its bold and distinctive design, the brand offers high-quality sunglasses and optical frames, standing out for its dark, avant-garde aesthetic, which has drawn the attention of many influential personalities.

This project was commissioned as part of a collaboration between Agathe Toman and Valley Eyewear. It seeks to capture the essence of both worlds—raw, stylized, and intensely personal. I followed Agathe through long hours in her studio and during her travels, immersing myself in her world to reflect the depth of her personality. The resulting film is structured in several chapters, echoing the complexity of this captivating and profound female artist.

Film written, directed and edited by Claudia Lederer. 2020.
